Hitting instruction in South Tampa

Baseball and softball hitting lessons in South Tampa, led by founder Ricardo Lizcano, a St. Louis Cardinals signee who has taught more than 10,000 lessons. Your athlete's swing is built on a six-point framework and measured on HitTrax and Blast Motion, so a change shows up as exit velocity and bat speed. Memberships from $249.99 a month.

Price Memberships from $249.99 per month, a one-hour drop-in hitting group for $80, or 1-on-1 lessons from $55.

Who it is for

  • Baseball and softball players from age six through the professional level
  • Travel-ball hitters who need a measurable reason for a swing change
  • High school players preparing for tryouts, showcases or a college look
  • Athletes who want a swing plan they can keep working on between sessions

What happens in a session

A look at where the swing actually is

The session opens on the machine or on the tee with HitTrax running, so the numbers on the board are the athlete’s own from the first swing rather than a memory of last week.

One point of the six, worked on directly

Coaching is against the six-point framework below. A session takes on load, or heel strike position, or connection — not all six at once, which is how swing changes stop holding up under a live pitch.

Measurement, not encouragement

Blast Motion reports bat speed, rotational acceleration and attack angle on each swing. HitTrax reports exit velocity, launch angle and where the ball would have landed. The change is either in the numbers or it is not.

The work leaves with the athlete

Video and drills go into the athlete’s Onform account, so the next two weeks of swings at home are the same swings the coach just built.

The six points of hitting

Every hitting lesson at Arsenal is coached against these six, in Arsenal’s own words. A session takes on one of them rather than all six, which is how a swing change holds up against a live pitch instead of falling apart in a game.

Hitting position (heel strike)

02

At heel strike we must be athletic, knob to the catcher, good shape and stacked.

Connection

03

Keeping the hands connected to the back shoulder, staying connected to the athlete's centerline through rotation.

Contact point

04

Having good shapes, head down, athletic, palm up / palm down at ball contact.

Who teaches it

Each coach has a full service record on their own page, with what they played, where, and what they teach here.

What we measure with

The point of the equipment is that a change either shows up in a number or it did not happen.

HitTrax

Measures exit velocity, launch angle and projected distance on every batted ball, and plots where each one would have landed on a real field.

Blast Motion

A bat sensor that reports bat speed, rotational acceleration, attack angle and time to contact for each swing.

Onform

The video app where an athlete’s lessons, drills and side-by-side comparisons live, so work continues between sessions.

Swing AI

Automated swing analysis used alongside coach review.

Video analysis

High-frame-rate capture reviewed frame by frame with the athlete during the session.

Junior Hack Attack pitching machines

Three-wheel machines for both baseball and softball, throwing live-arm-angle fastballs and breaking pitches.

Questions

The full list of questions people ask covers ages, pricing, cancellation and parking.

What happens in a hitting lesson at Arsenal?

A hitting lesson at Arsenal Performance Training opens with live swings on HitTrax so the athlete's current numbers are on the board. Coaching then takes on one point of the six-point swing framework rather than all six. Blast Motion and HitTrax measure whether the change held. Video and drills go to the athlete's Onform account afterwards.

What are the six points of hitting Arsenal teaches?

Arsenal Performance Training teaches hitting against six points: load, hitting position at heel strike, connection, contact point, direction, and finish. Load is a strong load in and on the back hip and leg. Direction keeps the barrel through the middle of the field. Each lesson works one point rather than trying to rebuild a swing at once.

Do you train softball players, or only baseball?

Arsenal Performance Training trains both baseball and softball players in South Tampa. Founder Ricardo Lizcano is an assistant softball coach at Plant High School, which recently reached the 7A Florida State Finals for the third time in school history. The cages run Junior Hack Attack machines set for fastpitch as well as baseball, and hitting memberships cover either sport.

What technology do you use, and what does it actually tell me about my kid?

Arsenal Performance Training uses HitTrax, TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swing AI, Onform and video analysis. HitTrax gives exit velocity and launch angle on batted balls. TrackMan gives pitch velocity, spin rate, spin axis, movement and release. Blast Motion gives bat speed and attack angle. Together they turn "he looks better" into a number that either moved or did not.

What ages do you train?

Arsenal Performance Training works with athletes from age six through the professional level. Founder Ricardo Lizcano has spent over a decade coaching that full range, and has completed more than 10,000 lessons in person and online. Instruction is built around the individual athlete rather than an age bracket, so a nine-year-old and a college pitcher are not given the same session.

Do I need a membership, or can I book a single lesson?

No membership is needed. Arsenal Performance Training books 1-on-1 lessons per session, from $55 for thirty minutes, and runs one-hour drop-in groups: $80 for hitting or pitching, $50 for strength and conditioning, and $30 for speed and agility. Cage time is $35 for thirty minutes. Memberships start at $249.99 a month and can be cancelled before the billing date.
