Receiving before anything else
The first job of a catcher is to hold a strike. Work starts at the setup and the glove path, because a pitcher’s command looks different behind a catcher who can present a pitch.

Blocking is trained as footwork and body angle rather than courage, so it holds up on a ball in the dirt in a real inning.
Transfer, footwork and release are broken down on video. Pop time comes off the exchange far more often than it comes off the arm.
Video and drills go into the athlete’s Onform account, so the receiving and blocking reps at home are the same ones the coach just built.

Our 1-on-1 training sessions provide athletes with individualized coaching focused on developing their skills, improving technique, and building confidence. Each session is tailored to the athlete's specific needs and goals, with specialized instruction from experienced coaches in their area of expertise.

Knox Meier teaches catching at Arsenal Performance Training, in 1-on-1 lessons for baseball and softball catchers. Meier, a 2021 Berkeley Prep graduate, played college baseball at Washington & Jefferson College, earned Second Team All-Conference honors, and competed in three consecutive NCAA Division III Regionals. He also helps with the group hitting program.
A catching session at Arsenal Performance Training covers receiving, blocking and throwing mechanics. Receiving comes first, because holding a strike is the position's first job. Blocking is trained as footwork and body angle rather than as courage. Transfer and release are broken down on video, since pop time comes off the exchange more often than the arm, and the drills go to the athlete's Onform account.
Arsenal Performance Training works with athletes from age six through the professional level. Founder Ricardo Lizcano has spent over a decade coaching that full range, and has completed more than 10,000 lessons in person and online. Instruction is built around the individual athlete rather than an age bracket, so a nine-year-old and a college pitcher are not given the same session.
One membership credit at Arsenal Performance Training is one athlete in one age-specific group class: hitting, baseball pitching, strength or defense. Credits cannot be used for 1-on-1 lessons. Anyone in the household on the account can use them, and once used a credit is gone, so War Machine's 40 credits can go to either of a family's two athletes. Max Arsenal also includes twelve thirty-minute cage credits, and Tank Soldier eight.
Memberships from $249.99 per month, or 1-on-1 catching lessons at $90 for an hour. Memberships are month-to-month and can be cancelled before the billing date. Call (813) 872-7765 during opening hours and someone will match your athlete to the right coach.
