Coach Ricardo Lizcano - Founder

  • Ricardo was the first player from his college to sign an Affiliated Professional contract (St. Louis Cardinals).
  • Played professionally in 2012 and 2013 with the Cardinals, Lake Erie Crushers, and Evansville Otters.
  • Currently an Assistant Softball Coach at Plant High School, which recently reached the 7A Florida State Finals for the third time in school history.
  • Has over a decade of coaching experience, working with athletes from age six to the professional level.
  • Has run numerous camps and clinics, completing over 10,000 lessons (in-person and online).
  • Specializes in custom hitting programs tailored to individual athletes and teams.
  • Currently part of the Tampa Mustangs Rene 18U National Team and assists other Mustang teams in the Tampa Bay area.
  • Graduated from Heidelberg University in 2012 with a degree in Business and Sports Management and a minor in Marketing.
  • 4-year letter winner and 3-time All-American (2010–2012).
  • Earned multiple honors: 2010 Mid-West Player of the Year, 2010 Conference Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Conference (2010–2012).
  • Career batting average of .400 and holds multiple school records:
    • Home runs (34)
    • Total bases (435)
    • Slugging % (.683)
    • Walks (111)

    Single-season RBI (71), Hits (94), OBP (.534), Walks (40), Total Bases (165), Runs Scored (74), and Home Runs (15).
     

Coach Brian Tollberg - Founder

 

  • Brian is a former professional starting pitcher with a 12-year career.
  • He spent parts of four seasons in MLB with the San Diego Padres.
  • Played high school baseball at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida.
  • Earned a full scholarship to the University of North Florida, where he was a two-time District 3 Academic All-American.
  • Went undrafted but began his pro career in 1994 with the Chillicothe Paints (Frontier League).
  • Named an All-Star and team MVP pitcher in his first pro season.
  • Signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers and helped the Beloit Snappers win the 1995 Midwest League championship with 15 wins.
  • Traded to the San Diego Padres in 1997.
  • Made MLB debut on June 20, 2000, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • Named National League Player of the Week during his debut week, going 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA in 14 1/3 innings.

Director of Sports Science - Raphael Ruiz

 

  • Dedicated to helping athletes achieve "athletic eXcellence" through orthopedically-sound, scientifically-based, performance-driven training.
  • Experience with three professional Tampa Bay teams:
  • NFL – Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tony Dungy
  • MLS – Tampa Bay Mutiny
  • MLB – Tampa Bay Devil Rays
  • Trained high-profile athletes including:
  • Deion Sanders (NFL)
  • Gary Sheffield (MLB)
  • Antonio Tarver (Boxing) 
  • Olympic swimmers Cullen Jones & Ryan Lochte
  • Integral in 5 National Championships with the University of Tampa (DII) in various sports.
  • Served as Director of Performance for University of Tampa (1999–2009)
  •  Earned Kinesiology degree from Sam Houston State University 

Elvin Williams - Hitting

 

  • Native of Euclid, Ohio, and graduate of Heidelberg University with a business degree.
  • Four-year starter on Heidelberg’s nationally ranked baseball team, consistently in the top 10.
  • Skilled outfielder known for both contact and power hitting.
  • Studied hitting philosophy and mechanics under Ricardo Lizcano.
  • Uses a simple, personalized approach to hitting instruction.
  • Moved to the Tampa area in 2015.
  • Previously coached and contributed to travel teams and players in the Cleveland area.
  • Helped numerous players improve their baseball skills through his coaching.

Johana Whitfield - Trainer

  • Born in Colombia, raised in Fort Myers, Florida.
  • Has lived in South Tampa for the past 13 years.
  • Paramedic for 11 years and full-time firefighter for 3.5 years.
  • Personal trainer and strength & conditioning coach for over a year.
  • Inspired to pursue fitness due to the physical demands of firefighting.
  • Passionate about promoting fitness as a lifestyle, especially after witnessing elderly struggles from inactivity.
  • Works with a wide range of clients—from youth to seniors.
  • Offers help with weight loss, healthy lifestyle habits, muscle building, and job-specific strength training 

Ruben Garcia - Catching/Hitting Instructor

 

  • Tampa Native - graduate from Tampa Catholic.
  • Continued his baseball career at St. Leo.
  • Experienced baseball coach with a strong track record of mentoring athletes.
  • Expert in enhancing players’ skills through precise technique adjustments.
  • Skilled in teaching fundamentals, form, performance techniques, and building endurance.
  • Brings energy and passion to coaching young athletes.
  • Focused on both athletic development and character building.
  • Uses baseball as a tool to teach valuable life lessons.

Jeff Karstens - Pitching Instructor

 

  • Brings extensive pitching experience at Community College (Grossmont), D-1 (Texas Tech), Minor League, and Major League levels.
  • Drafted twice: first as a catcher out of high school, then as a pitcher out of Texas Tech.
  • Selected by the New York Yankees in the 19th round of the 2003 MLB Draft.
  • Named a top 25 prospect each year with the Yankees organization.
  • Made MLB debut on August 22, 2006, vs. the Seattle Mariners.
  • Member of Team USA’s gold-winning 2007 World Cup squad, going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA.
  • Traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in July 2008.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2011 Roberto Clemente Award winner and national nominee.
  • Voted by NL managers as having the third-best control among NL starting pitchers.
  • Accumulated over 1,000 innings pitched across 10 years of pro experience.
  • Earned a finance degree from the University of South Florida after his playing career.
  • Varsity pitching coach at Berkeley Prep for the past 8 seasons.
  • Provides individualized pitching instruction and mentors players toward college careers.
